A Joyful, Unconventional Celebration at a Historic Firehouse
Anna and Will’s June wedding at Firehouse Chicago was anything but traditional—in the best possible way. Set inside a converted firehouse and its tucked-away garden, their celebration blended industrial charm with an picked-from-the-meadow floral vision that felt organic, joyful, and unexpected.
A light rain shower passed through just before the ceremony, leaving the florals dewy, fresh, and full of life. The result was a wedding that felt grounded in nature, playful in color, and perfectly at home in Firehouse Chicago’s warm brick walls and open-air garden spaces.
A Floral Vision with One Rule: No Roses
One of the most defining elements of Anna and Will’s wedding design was their intentional decision to skip roses entirely. Instead, the floral story leaned fully into peonies, ranunculus, strawflower, craspedia, and fresh June wildflowers—creating a look that felt untamed, textural, and delightfully nontraditional.
The palette was bold yet balanced, featuring layered shades of orange, coral, red, light yellow, and soft white, grounded by abundant greenery and blooming foliage. This wildflower-forward approach gave the entire day a sense of movement and spontaneity, as if the florals had grown naturally into the space.
The Bride’s Color-Blocked Wildflower Bouquet
Anna carried a color-blocked, monochromatic-inspired bridal bouquet that felt both playful and editorial. Designed with grouped tones of orange, coral, red, and buttery yellow, it featured flowers that danced, ruffled, and trailed.
Peonies, ranunculus, strawflower, and seasonal wildflowers were layered with slightly more greenery than our usual Saville style, giving the bouquet a relaxed, garden-gathered feel. It was a perfect reflection of Anna’s joyful, design-savvy style.
Personal Florals with Thoughtful Detail
Will wore a custom floral pin-on boutonniere designed to complement his dark brown, wide-lapel suit. Pulling directly from the bridal palette, the piece felt modern, artistic, and intentionally bold.
Both fathers wore coordinating pin-on boutonnieres, while each mother received a custom corsage featuring three to five petite statement blooms from the bridal palette, finished with complementary greenery. These wearable florals felt elevated, personal, and cohesive with the overall design.
A Dewy Garden Ceremony at Firehouse Chicago
To help define the ceremony space and soften the industrial surroundings, a floral meadow installation was created on and around the barrels framing the altar area. Designed to evoke a mixed garden in full bloom, the meadow featured layered greenery and blooming foliage with statement florals in reds, oranges, yellows, and whites.
Thanks to the passing rain shower, the ceremony flowers appeared especially lush—petals dotted with water, foliage deepened in color, and the entire scene glowing with fresh, early-summer energy. After the ceremony, these meadow florals were thoughtfully repurposed throughout the reception space, including on the bar and in front of guest tables.
A Layered, Eclectic Reception Tablescape
The reception design leaned into contrast and texture. Guest tables featured an eclectic mix of bud vases filled with whimsical, reaching wildflowers—each arrangement slightly different, adding to the relaxed, collected feel of the space.
To balance the bud vases, white ceramic dishes were introduced and filled with more saturated coral, red, and pink tones. This contrast created a beautifully layered tablescape that felt abundant and intentional without being overly formal.
A Wedding That Felt Effortless, Joyful, and Alive
Anna and Will’s wedding was a celebration of color, creativity, and individuality. By embracing wildflowers, skipping roses entirely, and allowing nature—rain and all—to play a role, their day felt vibrant, unpretentious, and full of life.
Firehouse Chicago provided the perfect backdrop for this garden-meets-industrial vision, and every floral choice helped transform the space into a joyful summer landscape—one that felt grown, gathered, and deeply personal.
Saville Flowers was honored to bring this wildflower-forward vision to life for a wedding that proved rules are meant to be rewritten—and that sometimes, the most beautiful designs bloom when you let them grow a little wild.
