Addie + Julia | A Contemporary Autumn Wedding in Highland Park and Winnetka

A Thoughtfully Curated Fall Wedding on the North Shore

Addie and Julia’s fall wedding at Rosewood Beach Interpretive Center in Highland Park was a stunning blend of contemporary floral artistry, architectural minimalism, and lakeside autumn romance. Nestled along the shoreline of Lake Michigan, the interpretive center’s clean-lined modern design and sweeping natural views created the perfect setting for a wedding that felt autumnal and artistic.

Their celebration embraced a warm, moody palette inspired by late fall along the lakeshore—burgundy, dusty rose, muted jewel tones, Japanese maple foliage, and layered earth tones woven together with sculptural floral forms and refined botanical textures.

Rather than leaning whimsical or overly rustic, the floral design focused on contemporary ikebana-inspired composition: asymmetry, negative space, movement, natural elements, and carefully selected statement blooms arranged with purpose.

The result was dramatic yet familiar and elegant.

An Ikebana-Inspired Bridal Bouquet

Addie carried a sculptural micro-bouquet designed in a contemporary ikebana style. Smaller in scale but rich in detail, the bouquet featured a curated mix of premium blooms in warm burgundy, dusty mauve, muted peach, and deep botanical tones.

Statement flowers like anthurium, orchids, hellebores, and calla lilies created strong architectural lines, while textural elements added movement without overwhelming the bouquet’s clean silhouette.

The arrangement felt modern, editorial, and intentional—a floral composition that mirrored both the contemporary venue and Addie’s understated bridal style.

Eclectic Botanical Wedding Party Florals

Julia wore a distinctive boutonniere composed of miniature orchids, Dutch thistle, dark purple hellebores, and soft peach lisianthus. The piece felt sculptural and artistic while still remaining refined and wearable.

Family members and honored guests wore eclectic boutonnieres and corsages designed within the same tonal palette, reinforcing the event’s layered botanical aesthetic. Each piece incorporated carefully selected blooms and foliage for a cohesive yet individualized feel.

A Sculptural Ceremony Meadow Along Lake Michigan

The ceremony took place overlooking Lake Michigan, grounded by floral meadow installations.

Rather than one singular stage of flowers, the crescent-shaped arch design was divided into four grounded meadow pieces arranged around where Addie and Julia stood in the sand. Layered greenery, reaching branches, orchids, anthurium, calla lilies, and dramatic seasonal blooms created a striking asymmetrical composition that felt both natural and sculptural.

Two additional aisle meadow installations framed the entrance to the ceremony space, softening the hard chairs and nearby interpretive center while adding depth and movement to the lakeside setting. The contrast between the modern interpretive center and the freeform floral design created a visually stunning balance throughout the ceremony.

A Warm, Contemporary Reception at Towne & Oak

Following the lakeside ceremony, guests gathered at Towne & Oak in Highland Park for an intimate candlelit reception. Known for its airy interior, natural textures, and warm modern atmosphere, the restaurant provided an inviting contrast to the crisp lakeshore setting earlier in the day.

The floral design carried seamlessly into the reception through layered ikebana arrangements, monochromatic bud vase groupings, and eclectic taper candles in a variety of autumn colors styled throughout the space—plus the repurposed ceremony meadows in front of the DJ table, welcome sign, and restaurant lobby.

A Modern LGBTQ+ Wedding Rooted in Design and Intention

Addie and Julia’s wedding was a beautiful example of how floral design can shape atmosphere without overwhelming it. Through sculptural compositions, layered autumn tones, and a highly intentional approach to space, their celebration felt modern, romantic, and true to their relationship.

From the windswept ceremony overlooking Lake Michigan to the candlelit dinner at Towne & Oak, every floral detail reflected a wedding rooted in artistry and seasonal design.

Saville Flowers was honored to bring this contemporary lakeside vision to life for a celebration that felt intimate, architectural, and full of richness.
